1953–1980s

Miyashita Park opened in 1953 as a flat public park in central Shibuya.

During the 1960s, growing demand for parking led to its redevelopment as a two-level structure — parking on the ground floor, with an elevated park above.

By the late 1990s and 2000s, aging facilities, dense vegetation, and public-safety and sanitation concerns had left the elevated park increasingly neglected.

2020–Present

From the 2010s to 2020, Shibuya City and Mitsui Fudosan carried out a large-scale public–private redevelopment, transforming the site into the present-day MIYASHITA PARK.

The 330-meter complex layers a rooftop public park, a lawn plaza, a skatepark and a bouldering wall on top of fashion retail, restaurants and cafés, event spaces, parking and a hotel — a destination where shopping, sports, relaxation and nightlife share a single connected structure.
